Susan Page Tillett

When I discovered that I was a sexual abuse survivor in 1981, there were very few resources available – nothing in the public library, no Internet, not even Oprah was talking about her story! As a result, I have blazed my own trail, researching topics from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to Eastern philosophies of energy balancing, such as Reiki and Buddhist meditation, to the universal healing properties of color, storytelling and the labyrinth. I have combined my passionate exploration for healing tools with a 40-year career in the arts where I have worked as a leader and consultant in museums, artist communities and making the arts accessible to all people. I believe strongly that the creative process provides amazing tools for healing and reintegration for trauma survivors.

About

Treatment Modalities

I work with individuals to reclaim and articulate their own stories. One of the lasting side effects of sexual trauma is that a person’s life path was interrupted and their story often doesn’t feel like their own.

Once I have met a client, I start by providing an individualized Intuitive Reading, which provides a symbolic story from a soul perspective. We discuss the images and story line, which provide a new perspective one’s life journey. From that point, we work together on meditation, creative visualization, artwork or writing exercises, until the story becomes a road map for moving forward. Since I am also certified in Reiki, Healing Touch and Aura Soma color work, it is possible to include these tools as well in the treatment plan that is customized to each individual’s needs.

Experience

I am a survivor myself. Having originally found very few resources, I have charted a course for my own healing journey for over 30 years, researching and experiencing many modalities along the way. The study of yoga, meditation and hands-on healing (such as Reiki and Healing Touch) has formed the basis of my own reclamation of my body. This reintegration of my spirit has come from exploring more “right-brain” creativity, in the form of color, artwork, creative writing and intuition.

I have extensive experience with survivors of incest, rape and those who have been abused by members of the clergy. However, since I have done extensive research on trauma and particularly sexual trauma, I believe that I would work well with any survivor.

I have worked throughout my career with artists and writers and I am very comfortable with creative people. I consider myself deeply spiritual and am comfortable with people from all spiritual backgrounds. As a woman and a mother, I believe that I have particular sensitivities to those groups, but I firmly believe that we are all one and can all learn from each other.

My Interest in Working with Survivors

As a survivor, I have seen first-hand how disabling unresolved trauma can be, spreading into all aspects of life. I have also experienced how empowering our own healing can be and consider sharing what I have learned with other survivors my top priority.

I am currently writing a book called Reclaiming the Gold: Healing from Sexual Trauma and now offer individual sessions and workshops, based on the methodologies included within the book.

Modifications for Survivors

Although I work with all kinds of people, my work is specifically designed to take the needs of a survivor into account. Knowing how essential safety and trust are to healing, I work to provide a safe and nurturing space, spend time actively listening to my client’s background and concerns and only moving forward when I feel that a positive connection has been established.

Payment Options

I am able to provide a sliding-scale to survivors for treatments and workshops.
